Abstract

Ibuprofen is a NSAIDs group can be used to relieve inflammation. Ibuprofen is formulated into gel preparations because it minimizes side effects if used the oral. The research is aimed to determine the variation in levels of HPMC (gelling agent) and poloxamer 407 (solubilizer) on the physical properties of the gel. It is aimed to obtain the optimum formula. The formula’s design was made by the factorial design method with poloxamer 407 (X1) and HPMC (X2) components with the response of pH, viscosity, spread ability and adhesion. The optimum formula showed the concentration of HPMC 2.23% and poloxamer 407 20% with a desirability value of 0.240. The results of the one t-test sample between the prediction of the factorial design and the average results of the optimum formula test showed that there were no significant difference (p>0.05). The results of the paired t test on the day 0 and day 28 stability test showed there were no significant difference (p>0.05). So that it can be concluded that the results of the factorial design prediction show the same results and good stability, and the penetration test results showed the cumulative sum of the optimum formula for ibuprofen gel that which penetrated per area for 7 hours is 18909,209 µg/cm2.
