Abstract

Groundwater availability depends on available recharge area and change in land-use affects the availability. Change in land-use inconsistent with function may result in problem of water resources. Sleman district is a zone with high population growth, where the annually increasing population affects need of water resources for the population and change in land-use. Change in land-use in the Sleman District might exacerbate the condition of recharge area in the Sleman district. Therefore, this study aimed at understanding distribution of infiltration capacity and condition of recharge area in the Sleman district. Method used in this study is overlay analysis with stratified quantitative standardization to generate Maps of Infiltration Capacity in the Sleman district. Parameters used in determining the distribution of infiltration capacity to the Sleman district are lithology, rainfall, slope, and land cover. Whereas the condition of recharge area in the Sleman district could be found by overlay analysis of Infiltration Capacity Map and land-use in 2019. The samples used in this study were taken by using random sampling method in land-use parameter. This research produced infiltration capacity classes in Sleman District classified into very small, small, medium, big, and very big, where the big infiltration capacity class dominated the Sleman District found in nearly all sub-districts in the Sleman District. Very big infiltration capacity class has smallest width and only found in some sub-districts, such as, Tempel and Turi. Small infiltration capacity class was found in sub-districts of Pakem, Cangkringan, Moyudan, and Prambanan. Very Small infiltration capacity class was only found in some areas of Prambanan Sub-district, while medium infiltration capacity class was found in some areas of sub-districts of Turi, Pakem, Cangkringan, Moyudan, Minggir, Gamping, Godean, Ngemplak, Berbah, and Prambanan. Condition of water infiltration area in Sleman District is classified into good, normal-natural, early critical, rather critical, critical, and very critical conditions. The critical condition dominated nearly all sub-districts in Sleman District, where land-use highly affected the condition having potentials of small infiltrations: rice fields and buildings/residences. Very critical condition was only found in some areas of Tempel and Turi Sub-districts. Normal-natural condition distributed to nearly all sub-districts in Sleman District with width less than critical condition class, while condition of water infiltration area was only found in some areas of sub-districts of Moyudan, Turi, Pakem, Cangkringan, and Prambanan. Early critical condition of water infiltration area was found in some areas of sub-districts of Pakem, Turi, Cangkringan, Moyudan, Minggir, Gamping, Ngaglik, Depok, Berbah, and Prambanan. While rather critical class was found in nearly all sub-districts in Sleman District, except sub-districts of Mlati and Sleman.
