Abstract

The purpose of this study to improve students mathematical reasoning abilities through Problem Based Learning in VIII grade students on SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta academic year in 2018/2019. The type of this research is used Classroom Action Research (CAR)the subject of this study is students in VIII C class. Data collection techniques are observation sheets, tests, field note sheets, and test. Data collection techniques are: observation, field notes and tes sheets. Data analysis techniques consist of data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results showed an increase in reasoning ability with indicators: 1) Presenting mathematical statements before the action as many as 3 student (12%), in cycle I 12 student (48%) and in cycle II 20 student (80%). 2) Ability to do mathematic manipulation before the action as many as 2 student (8%), in cycle I 8student (32%) and in cycle II 18student (72%). 3) Draw conclusions from a statement before the action as many as 2 student (8%), in cycle I 8student (32%) and in cycle II 15 student (60%).Based on the description, it can be concluded that through Problem Based Learning(PBL) can improve students' reasoning abilities.
