Abstract

So far, the society can only get to know marine biota through the media but it is difficult to see directly the characteristics and life cycle of the biota. One way to see marine life is by snorkeling and diving. WWF Indonesia launches that underwater tourism potential such as snorkeling and diving reaches 15% of the total tourism potential in Indonesia. But good equipment and conditions are needed because not everyone can enjoy it. Even though our sea is very famous for its beauty and wealth. In the global tourism trend, coastal and marine tourism represents a significant industry share and is an important component of the Blue Economy, the global agenda that focuses on developing a maritime-based economy in 2030. This segment has an added value of 26% of all segments in the Blue Economy . It takes a space in the form of an oceanarium so that all of this potential can be utilized. The purpose of Oceanarium planning is to fulfill the needs of the society for tourism which presents and interprets the underwater atmosphere so that people can learn that the marine biota ecosystem must be preserved as well as an effort to conserve exhibited ecosystems and ecosystems at the planned object location. Semarang is a strategic location for the development of the sea-based tourism sector. The concept adopted uses a contemporary architectural approach and the principle of waterfront architecture because an oceanarium needs to have a design that gives positive impressions to visitors and keep paying attention to the sustainability of the surrounding ecosystem. The Oceanarium is expected to be a place for the opening up of science and the sea-based tourism sector for the society.
