Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the mathematical errors that are often carried out by second semester students in solving mathematical induction problems in the Subject Theory Course in the Muhammadiyah University Mathematics Education Study Program. This research is a descriptive qualitative research conducted by analyzing the answers to the tests of the description of the second semester students of the Mathematics Education Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah, amounting to 40 students consisting of 5 male students and 35 female students. Data collection techniques carried out in this study were tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques carried out in this study were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data uses triangulation techniques. From the results of the study, it was obtained data that students who made conceptual errors were 11.66%, those who made procedural errors were 13.33% and those who made a mistake in calculating were 7.5%. Thus the results of the above percentages show that procedural errors are often carried out in semester II students in number theory courses on mathematical induction. A very large percentage of procedural errors is caused because students do not understand the concept of formulas, so students only guess and answer their knowledge.
