Abstract

Kauman is one of the historical ancient regions that has a specific character in Surakarta. Kauman was once a village that was used as a place of residence by servants in the religious field of the Keraton Surakarta. Kauman has potential related to ancient buildings which if used again can improve the city's economy. Heritage tourism is currently experiencing fertile growth. Reuse or revitalization of ancient buildings with significant new functions such as restaurants, motels, cafes and so on shows that these potentials can support the city's economy. This also applies to the Kauman area which physically grows and develops along with the existence of ancient buildings. The Kauman area which continues to be in the path of revitalization and balanced with the maintenance of the area will present a tourist-friendly tourist area. This condition certainly must be balanced with the availability of regional amenities that can be in the form of restaurants, inns, cafes and other facilities. In addition, the procurement of regional amenities can be carried out based on the concept of adaptive reuse and infill design to maintain the value of the existing area. The discussion method used is qualitative-descriptive using primary data from field observations and secondary data from the literature review. From the results of the analysis and concepts the results are in the form of design proposals in the Kauman development area in the form of amenities with functions as Restaurants, Warung Wedangan, Café, Kauman Mini Museum, Kauman Open Center, and Homestay. The design proposal is a design with the infill design and adaptive reuse concept as one of the efforts in revitalizing the area by maintaining characteristics through the approach of urban heritage tourism.
