Abstract

Research on natural materials as an alternative or companion therapy in cancer still needs to be developed. Noni is one of the plants that has the potential as an anticancer. This study aims to determine cytotoxic activity and determine the class of compounds contained in noni fruit. The sample used in this study came from Boyolali and Karanganyar which aimed to compare samples in lowland and highland areas. Extraction in this study used maceration methods with ethanol and ethyl acetate. Cytotoxic tests were carried out using the MTT assay. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) was carried out to identify the class of compounds contained in the extract. Determination of antraquinone and coumarin compounds using KOH reagents. Cytotoxic test results showed that the ethanol and ethyl acetate extract of noni fruit did not have cytotoxic activity against HeLa cells. The results of a qualitative analysis using TLC allowed that the extract contained antraquinone, coumarin, terpenoids and flavonoids. The terpenoid compounds use anisaldehyde and flavonoids using sitroborat.
