Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the amount of drying inlet temperature on changes in temperature on the rotary dryer, heat of fluid’s heat has received by cassava, changes in cassava mass and thermal efficiency on the rotary dryer with mass flow rate 0.00422 Kg/s and 0.00471 Kg/s. This research using materials from cassava with a cylindrical dryer or drum that rotates continuously which below it is given a heat source that comes from a gas stove, so that the hot fluid can flow evenly on the surface of the cylinder which results in even drying of the dried product. This tool is equipped with a blower and 3 IDF (Induced Draft Fan) suction holes which are used to suck water steam from dried cassava in a tube. The results showed that the higher the drying inlet temperature, the higher the temperature changes. At the mass flow rate of 0.00422 Kg / s, the optimum results were obtained at the drying inlet temperature of 690oC with changes in cassava mass of 0.22 Kg, heat of fluid’s heat received by cassava was 2468.43 Watts, and thermal efficiency of 10.54%. At the mass flow rate of 0.00481 Kg / s, optimal results were obtained at the drying inlet temperature of 690 oC with changes in cassava mass of 0.20 Kg, heat of fluid’s heat received by cassava at 2494.23 Watts, and thermal efficiency of 9.61%.
