Abstract

The impact that can occur in ischemic stroke patients is neurological damage. Citicoline and pirasetam are neuroprotectants that can repair brain damage and improve cognitive abilities and memory of patients. There are still differences of opinion about the use of citicoline and piracetam in several scientific studies. The purpose of this study was to compare effectiveness of the use of citicoline and piracetam in ischemic stroke patients using the GCS (Glasgow Coma Scale) score parameter. This study was an observational study with a descriptive non-experimental design. The inclusion criteria in this study were patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke, having complete medical record data, and using citicoline or piracetam. Data obtained from records obtained from medical record data. The data used in the measurement is measurement data when patients enter and leave the hospital on a GCS scale. Data analysis was carried out on 73 samples divided into two groups, 57 patients in the citicoline group and 16 patients in the piracetam group. The results of the study using the Mann-Whitney test on the GCS delta score of the citicoline and piracetam group obtained irrelevant results about neurological enhancement between the citicoline and piracetam groups with a significance value of 0.779 (p> 0.05).
