Abstract

The study aims to describe the difficulties of students and the factors of the students ' difficulties in resolving the SPLDV problem based on the Polya theory from gender. This type of research is qualitative descriptive. The subject of this study was 4 students taken from all students of grade VIII A in SMP Negeri 1 Sambi. The data collection techniques on this research are tests, self-assessment, interviews and documentation. The validity of data using method triangulation, while the data analysis technique uses reduction, data presentation and verification. The analysis framework developed based on the Polya theory is reviewed from gender where the Polya theory consists of 4 steps, namely understanding the problem, drafting a plan, implementing a plan and looking back. Then the gender is male and female. The results of this study show that (1) the stage of understanding the problem has difficulties in medium category and devise the plan students have difficulties but have a low category, while on the stage of implementing the plan Students have difficulties with high categories including students difficulty in operating calculations more competently, difficult to understand the concept of the method used, male and female students find it difficult to examine every process that It does because of the lack of mastery of its methods and calculations, students feel difficulties in understanding the concepts available so that students refer only to memory and formula. In the stage of looking back students are also experiencing difficulties with high category including male and female students difficulties to evaluate the answer because there is no habituation to reexamine what is acquired and lazy to correct The answer because when the student evaluates is considered to take a long time. (2) Some of the factors students have reviewed both genders think that the lack of understanding and mastery of the SPLDV material uses three methods in a sequential and structured manner, lacking in mastering the overall calculation of operations, lack of In depth, lack of practice, students rush to get the answers, confuse to work, hesitate with the results and the factors of the teacher using conventional teaching methods
