Abstract

Macroalgae is one of the biological resources that is widely found in marine waters and has great potential to be developed because it has an important role in terms of its ecology and economy. Many macroalgae live in Kukup beach because the area consists of coral and sand which are suitable for their growth. The purpose of this research was to study the types of macroalgae on coral reef substrate and their distribution in Kukup Beach Gunung Kidul Yogyakarta. This research used the quadratic transect method. Sampling wasn’t damaged habitat of macroalgae on 5 line transects that's long was 20 meters with a distance between 25 meters transects. The quadrant has size 1x1m2. The research obtained 12 species of macroalgae, that were 7 species of Classis Rhodophyceae, Chondrus crispus, Eucheuma arnoldii, Gigartina polycarpa, Gracilaria salicornia, Gracilaria tikvahiae, Gracilaria corticata, Acanthopora muscoides, Ulva lactuca, Enteromorpha intestinalis, Boergesenia forbesii, Sargassum crassifolium, and Padina minor. Index Dispertion of Morisita of all macroalgae was <1, therefore the distribution of macroalgae was uniform.
