Abstract

Resilience is the ability of a person to rise again after he feels a traumatic situation and had collapsed. This study aims to determine the resilience capabilities of persons with physical disabilities after an accident. Informants from this study were selected by purposive sampling with the criteria of being a person with disabilities for ± 1 year, a Beneficiary at BBRSPDF Prof. Dr. Soeharso Surakarta and was willing to be an informant and proved by the existence of Informed Consent. The informants of this study were five persons with physical disabilities after an accident at BBRSPDF Prof. Dr. Soeharso Surakarta. Data collection techniques used in this study are semi-structured interviews. The results of this study are that the five informants experienced a downturn in the form of sadness and regret, but now they can accept sincerely. The subject surrenders to the destiny and provisions that come from God and believes that he will get wisdom, and feels able to accept reality after being given motivation from family and friends. The five informants were optimistic about the future and hoped to realize their desires and ignored the responses of others about the current conditions. Factors that can affect the ability of resilience of persons with physical disabilities are individual, family and community factors. Individual factors in the form of self-concept, self-esteem, and social competence of individuals. Family factors in the form of parental support, namely how parents to treat children guide and give strength. Community factors in the form of support from the community besides parents, hobbies, and religious activities, as well as positive relationships with peers that aim to release stress.
