Abstract

Welding technology is an inseparable part of the world of construction and automotive because welding has been widely used in connecting metal materials. Brazing is an alternative connection process for metals that have a low weldability because liquefaction only occurs in filler metals. Wire rod filler metals are commonly used by welders. In this study, in addition to using wire-shaped filler metal also added filler metal in the form of powder. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of copper powder filler on the strength of the lap joint connection on aluminum material. In this study the methods used for the testing process are chemical composition test, tensile test, hardness test and micro photo test. Based on the results of research that has been done shows that aluminum material contains several compositions that are quite high, namely, Aluminum (99.2%), Iron (0.4491%), Silicon (0.1907%), Copper (0.0603%), Manganese (0.0484%), and Magnesium (0.0127%). The highest tensile strength value occurred on the connection with the addition of copper powder filler of 14.47 N / mm2 and the lowest tensile strength value occurred in the aluminum joint with the addition of copper powder filler of 10.59 N / mm2. The aluminum micro structure of the HAZ region has a larger grain size change than the smaller base metal region. In the hardness test the highest hardness value in the weld metal connection area with additional copper powder filler was 43.37 VHN while the lowest hardness value was owned by the HAZ region of 25.67 VHN.
