Abstract

Geriatric Diabetes Mellitus (DM) occurs due to the emergence of insulin resistance in the elderly caused by 4 factors, namely : Changes in body composition, decreased physical activity, changes in diet, and neurohotmonary cahnges. In 2017, there are 140 cases of diabetes mellitus at Gatak Health Center. The purpose of the study was to determine the level of spirituality and quality of life of the psychological aspects of elderly people with diabetes mellitus and analyze the relationship of spirituality levels with quality of life of the psychological aspects of elderly people with diabetes mellitus at Gatak Health Center Sukoharjo Regency. The research method used is descriptive correlative. The population of elderly people with diabetes mellitus in 140 health centers in Sukoharjo Regency was taken by a sample of 70 people with a simple random sampling technique. The independent variable is the psychological quality of life of the elderly, the instrument used with the questionnaire. The data analysis technique is Chi-Square (x2) analysis. The results showed that most elderly people with diabetes mellitus had insufficient levels of spirituality with sufficient quality of life in the psychological aspects and there was a significant relationship between the level of spirituality and the quality of life in the elderly psychological aspects of diabetes mellitus at Gatak Health Center Sukoharjo Regency p –value = 0,001). It is recommended for the elderly to be able to improve spirituality by getting closer to God Alminghty and improving their quality of life, especially in the psychological aspect.
