Abstract

Students' learning achievements are not only affected by their studying methods and provided facilities, but also the learning environment itself. It takes an appropriate system to create such conducive learning environment. This conducive environment will enable students to study more energetically and comfortably, even though perhaps they might have some difficulties in studying mathematics. This research aims at describing the mathematics learning environment in accordance with the moving class system applied at SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta based on the class management and class interaction, as well as the available facilities and environmental condition. This is qualitative research and the subjects are students and mathematics teachers at SMK Negeri 1 Surakarta. The data collection technique used for this research includes interviews, observation, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis methods have been taken by reducing data, presenting data, and then drawing a conclusion. The result of this research, viewed from the class management of the mathematics learning environment with a moving class system as applied at SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta, shows that the teachers become more disciplined and are able to control their classes quite well so that the teaching and learning processes run well. Viewed from the class interaction, the moving class system has created closer interactions among students and better interactions between teachers and students. Therefore, the learning process can be conducted in a fun and conducive atmosphere. From the aspects of the school's facilities and environmental condition, SMK Negeri 6 Surakarta has a large and clean environment, but the facilities provided at the school are fairly limited which make the classes have no characteristics as mathematics classes as stated in the concept of moving class system applied at school.
