Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease that is chronic where the body is unable to produce and use insulin properly. People with DM often experience stress related to treatment that must be followed and fear of complications that arise. Stress can affect self-care and correct management of diabetes. Stress associated with DM is called diabetes distress. So the purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between diabetes distress and self-care habits in DM patients in diabetic GRHA and Surakarta hypertension. The research design used was observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. Sampling uses purposive sampling. The number of respondents in this study were 60 people. The data collection technique used a diabetes distress scale and self-care questionnaire (Summary Diabetes Self-Care Activities). Data analysis using Chi-Square test, obtained p-value 0.018. Stress has an effect on self-care or diabetes management that is not entirely understood by health workers. The impact of stress alone can affect a person's ability to manage DM well, so that it can adversely affect metabolic control and psychological well-being. The value of p-value <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between diabetes distress and self-care habits. The OR value obtained is 0.189 and means that the higher the diabetes distress score, the lower the level of self-care.
