Abstract

The major problem of this study is how the struggle for power is reflected in Shekar Kapur’s The Golden Age based on sociology of literature. The objectives of this study are to analyze Shekar Kapur’s The Golden Age movie based on its structural elements and based on the sociology of literature. The benefits of this study are to give in the application of Sociological approach in literary study. The primary data is taken from the video and script of The Golden Age movie, while the secondary data is taken from book and the the information related to theory of sociology. The method of collecting data is library research. The technique of analyzing data is descriptive. The outcome of the study shows that based on the structural analysis, it is apparent that in this movie Shekar Kapur conveys a moral message that power struggle may cause people to suppress their conscience. Based on the sociological analysis, it is evident that in this movie, Kapur reflects the social realities of the English society, either social, political, economic, religion, or cultural aspects.
