Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of differences in aluminum with lead aluminum alloy on the value of hardness, microstructure, and chemical composition, with dimensions of scrap dimensions of 10 x 10 x 1 cm of aluminum. The casting process begins by using permanent mold preparation with a homogeneous shape and cylindrical shape. Before doing molten aluminum pouring into the mold, the first thing to do is to clean the mold wall so that it is clean of dirt, then preheat the mold so that the non-sticky castings are printed. Then the next stage is the base of the permanent mold coated with red sand. Then molten aluminum with scrap dimensions of 10 x 10 x 1 cm is poured into a permanent form of homogeneous form, then the process of re-melting with a permanent mold form a cylinder, with the addition of lead by 20%. when aluminum has hardened and cooled the mold is dismantled to retrieve the results of casting. The hardness test of aluminum (Al) with the brinell hardness test obtained the value of hardness with scrap dimensions of 10 x 10 x 1 cm with a value of 77,733 BHN. In testing the chemical composition using a spectrometer it is known that the four dominant chemical elements in the aluminum castings are (Al) 83.90%, (Si) 10.5%, (Zn) 4.20%, (Fe) 0.718%. The hardness test of lead aluminum alloy (Al-Pb) obtained a hardness value of 83,63 BHN. In testing the chemical composition using a spectrometer device it is known that five chemical elements that are dominant in the results of lead aluminum alloy castings (Al-Pb) are (Al) 84.15%, (Si) 7.0889%, (Zn) 3.1369%, (Pb) 2.1885%, (Cu) 1.7498%.
