Abstract

Health center is a place that allows for environmental pollution, that is if the waste produced is disposed of into the environment without proper management. The most abundant content in health center liquid waste is phosphate. One method to reduce the phosphate content of liquid waste was the adsorption method. The adsorbent was made of High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) bottle cap waste. HDPE has a high carbon content so that it can be used to absorp phosphate in liquid waste. HDPE waste was furnaced at 460°C for 2 hours then was activated using 33% HCl solution. After the carbon was formed, the adsorption was carried out continuously. This study aimed to analyze the phosphate content in the liquid waste of the health center. The variables used in the study were packing height of 1, 2, and 3 cm. In addition to packing height, other variable used was particle size, namely 2380 µm and 1190 µm. The results obtained from the study were the efficiency of phosphate adsorption varied levels according to packing height of 1 cm by 67.68%, packing height of 2 cm by 74.31%, and packing height of 3 cm by 74.87%. While the efficiency of reducing phosphate levels with particle size variations of 2380 µm was 71.91% and 1190 µm of 72.66%. Based on Thomas equilibrium, the KTh value is 0.0263 and the q0 value is 0.5889 with particle size 2380 µm and packing height of 3 cm, while particle size is 1190 µm and packing height of 3 cm is KTh value of 0.0147 and q0 value of 0,8263.
