Abstract

The object of the research is the novel entitled The Firm. The major problem of this study how is MC Deere’s ambition reflected in john Grisham’s The Firm based on Psychoanalytic perspective. This approach is aimed at analyzing the structural element of The Firm and describing the ambitions of MC Deere’s in the story based on Psychoanalytic perspective. This research is qualitative research. The object of the study is The Firm written by John Grisham. The primary data sources is The Firm itself and secondary data sources are the other sources related to the analysis such as literary theory books, and article from the internet. The method of the data collection is library research by collecting both primary and secondary data. The technique of data analysis is descriptive analysis based on Psychoanalytic perspective. The conclusion of the study in the structural analysis of all the elements of novel such as character and characterization, setting of place and time, plot, point of view, style and theme are connected to each other. Psychoanalytic analysis shows that The Firm gives a slight description about how people’s ambition viewing and realizing the success. The people mentioned in this novel are lawyer, the law firm and the law enforcement agency, in this case FBI.
