Abstract

Binahong plants are known to contain flavonoids which have an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect, so they can be used as a treatment for acne problems. This study aims to determine the comparison of the gelling agent chitosan and sorbitol humectant components so that it can produce a gel formula that has optimum physical properties with parameters of adhesion, dispersion, viscosity, and pH. Gel formula was made with 5 variations of the preparation with different components of chitosan and sorbitol namely formula 1 (3: 9), formula 2 (4.5: 7.5), formula 3 (6: 6), formula 4 (7.5 : 4,5) and formula 5 (9: 3). The optimization method used is Simplex Lattice Design using the Design Expert 11 application (trial). Evaluation and characterization carried out include organoleptic testing, adhesion, spreadability, viscosity, and pH. From the results of the evaluation parameters and characterization, the optimum formula is then verified and analyzed using SPSS one sample t-test with a confidence level of 95%. The components of chitosan and sorbitol were obtained at a ratio of 3.97%: 8.02%. The desirability value obtained is 0.669. The SPSS test with one sample t-test confidence level 95% adherence power, spreadability, and viscosity showed no significant difference between predictive value and verification results with a significance of p> 0.05 and showed significant differences in pH with significance p <0, 05. The combination of chitosan and sorbitol can reduce dispersion and pH and can increase stickiness.
