Abstract

The nutritional status of children is generally influenced by internal factors and external factors. The employment status of the mother can also influence children's diet and child health monitoring, can affect the nutritional status of preschool children. This study aims to determine the differences in maternal employment status with nutritional status and energy intake in preschool children in Aisyiyah, Laweyan District, Surakarta. Sampling using Simple Random Sampling technique, a sample of 78 respondents consisted of 39 working mothers and 39 non-working mothers. Energy intake data is obtained by using a food record, while nutritional status data is obtained from measurements of height and weight. Test for differences in energy intake and nutritional status in preschool children working and not working using the Mann Whitney difference test. The results of the analysis of different tests from the two groups showed that there were 20 children (25.6%) from mothers who did not work and 18 children (23%) from working mothers while the normal energy intake had 25 children (53.2% ) from working mothers and there were 22 children (46.8%) who did not work. The Mann Whitney test results showed that there were differences in nutritional status in preschool children working and not working mothers (p = 0.001) and energy intake in preschool children working and not working mothers (p = 0.007).The employment status of mothers influences energy intake and nutritional status in preschoolers in Aisyiyah Pajang and Karangasem Kindergarten Laweyan Districts.
