Abstract

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a welding process using heat caused by tool rotation rubbing with main metal under big axial pressure at welding area resulting joint. The friction stir welding techniques is used to weld materials, which are difficult to joint on fusion welding. The study is aimed to know the influence of annealing heat and normalizing on the result of material welding of aluminum type AA 5052 on the mechanical and physical characteristics. The welding process uses milling machine with feed rate parameter of 60 mm/minutes, tool elevation angle is 3º and the tool rotation speed of 1500 rpm. The annealing heat treatment and normalizing are performed at temperature of 345ºC with heat endurance in fireplace for 2 hours. The mechanical trait is revealed by test of pulling and hardness, while the physical trait is known by micro structure. The result of the study shows that the pulling power score on raw material is higher than normalizing and annealing with average tight score of 162.54 MPa and stretch score of 8.61%. The highest score of hardness on metal base of raw material is 53.7 BHN, the highest score of HAZ and welding area occur on the raw material, which is 40.6 BHN and 30.4 BHN. The lowest hardness score occurs on the entire material annealed. The micro structure of HAZ area grows dots because of accepted temperature during welding process. The weld nugget shows the small and rigid micro structure display.
