Abstract

East Slope of Merapi Volcano Klaten Regency in 3 sub-districts, namely Tulung, Polanharjo, and Karanganom sub-districts are 3 of 26 sub-districts in Klaten Regency. The sub-district area has springs that are one of the main water sources in this area. This research aims to: (1) determine the distribution pattern of srings in the East Slope of Merapi Volcano in Klaten Regency, and (2) analyze the characteristics of springs in the East Slope of Merapi Volcano in Klaten Regency. The method used in this research is a survey that is equipped with secondary data. Sample determination using two methods, namely saturated sampling method to determine the spreading pattern of springs, and disproportionate stratified random sampling method for the characteristics of springs. The result of this research showed that: (1) the pattern of spreading springs in the East Slope of Merapi Volcano in Klaten Regency according to the analysis of the nearest neighbors formed a clustered pattern with the nearest parameter (nearest neighbour statistic) value of 0,367, and (2) the characteristics of the springs as a whole are caused by gravity power with a discharge ranging from class III - V (100 liters/second – 1000 liters/ second until 1 – 10 liter/second), and class VIII (<0,01 liters/second), and includes ordinary springs. Based on the flow period, one of the springs includes the intermitten type, while 11 other springs include the perrenial type. Characteristics based on the physical and chemical properties of springs indicate that there is nothing exceeding the maximum limit and still in accordance with the requirements of clean water quality according to the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 32 Year 2017 concerning Quality Standard Environmental Health and Water Health Requirements for Sanitary Hygiene Needs, Swimming Pool, Solus Per Aqua, and Public Baths.
