Abstract

Substation is a part of electric power transmission system that serves to reduce voltage. One of the electrical equipment is a circuit breaker (CB) which is a switch that is used to connect or disconnect electrical power in normal or abnormal conditions / disturbances. To maintain the reliability of CB, it is necessary to do regular maintenance. Maintenance of CB is done by testing the insulation resistance, contact resistance, grounding resistance and CB contact synchronization test. This research aims to determine the effect of maintenance of CB on the reliability of the CB. This research was conducted by comparing data on CB maintenance results in the last few maintenance periods. The research was conducted at CB bay Gondangrejo 2 at the Palur substation. The results showed that the insulation resistance test had varying values in several maintenance periods, the insulation ability of each phase also varied. Then in testing of the contact resistance the value always increases in each maintenance period but it is still within the allowable limit. The grounding resistance of CB are also in good condition, because in 3 maintenance periods the value is always the same, namely 0,3 Ω. In contact synchronization testing, the working time of individual contacts is within the permitted standard, which is under 120 milliseconds, but in 2016 the difference in working time between phases is 10,9 milliseconds. This value is not in accordance with the permitted standard, which is <10 milliseconds, of course, it is necessary to repair CB contacts. Overall, with the maintenance of circuit breakers, the reliability of CB bay Gondangrejo 2 is maintained so that CB can work properly in accordance with its functions.
