Abstract

Protection systems on electrical equipment is useful to identify the presence of fault and reduce the occurrence of damage by limiting the disturbed area, safety on power transformers using primary protection namely differential relay. The basic principle of relay is based on hokum kirchoff where the inrush is equal to the outflow (I1= I2). The differential relay works selectively securing the transformer from internal fault and external fault, input current and transformer output current are equal even though the current exceeds the transformer maximum current, therefore the relay does not respond to it as a disturbance. The method used in this research is secondary data by conducting research at Banyudono Substation 150kV all component data is calculated manually and ETAP 12.6 software simulation to be applied to mathematical calculations when the relay occurs fault. The secondary CT current is the output of the current transformer which is on the primary side worth 0.769 A, on the secondary value of 0.787 A. The setting current is 0.3 A or 30% greater with assumption : circuit transformator (CT) error (10%), excitation current (1%), mismatch (4%), and safety factor (5%), lead error (10%). Differential relay can work when the differential current is greater than the current setting, the relay will order the circuit breaker for the trip, to determine the performance and testing of differential relay it is simulated with ETAP 12.6.
