Abstract

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a welding process utilizing heat due to rotation of the tool that rubs against the parent metal under large axial pressure in the welding area. This study aims to know changes in physical and mechanical properties of Friction Stir Welding (FSW) followed by heat treatment of annealing and normalizing. The FSW process uses a milling machine. The material used is AA-7075 with a size of 150×50×30 mm, tool rotation 1500 rpm, tool tilt angle 3˚ and feed rate 60 mm / minute with the type of butt joint welding joint. Annealing and normalizing treatments were carried out at 415˚C for 2 hours of heat retention in the furnace. Specimen testing includes, tensile test, hardness test, and microstructure photo. From the results of the study it was found that the highest tensile strength in raw material with an average stress and strain value of 218.2 Mpa and 12.6%, the highest hardness value of base metal in raw material was 80.90 BHN, HAZ area and weld the highest hardness value in material experiencing normalizing is equal to 57.97 BHN and 69.47 BHN. From the observation of the micro structure there is a bright area which is the Al phase and the dark region which is the MgZn2 phase.
