Abstract

This study aims to determine changes in physical and mechanical characteristics in the result welding of the series 6061 aluminum friction stir welding (FSW), which is given normalizing and annealing heat treatment. This research uses aluminum plate 6061 series size 150 × 50 × 30 mm. Welding use the friction stir welding (FSW) method with rotation welding parameters tool 1500 rpm and feedrate 60 mm / minute, then heat treatment normalizing and annealing on term 〖415〗^°C with holding time of 2 hours. On this study conducted tests include pulling strength test with ASTM E8 standard, hardness value test with brinnel method, and the last is microstructure photo test. The results of this study concluded that the heat treatment affects the physical and mechanical characteristics of the welding results. The highest pulling strains value in raw material is 96.84 Mpa, while the maximum tensile value on annealing is 8.98%. The highest hardness value in raw material is base 69.19 BHN, HAZ 49.12 BHN and Weld nugget 54.48 BHN. From the observation of the micro structure there are a bright area which is the Al phase and the dark area which is the Mg2Si phase
