Abstract

The purpose of this research is to: (1) test the difference significant ability in solving math story problem oriented PISA reviewed from gender. (2) analyze errors made by students in solving PISA-oriented mathematical story problems in terms of gender based on the newman method. (3) obtain information about the causes of students making mistakes in story solving mathematical problems that are oriented to the PISA based on the Newman method. This type of research uses mixed methods, (1) mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) with the design of the Concurrent Triangulation Strategy model. (2) the population in this study were all students of class VII and the sample was class VII A SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Surakarta with a total of 26 students consisting of 16 female students and 10 male students. (3) The sampling technique uses purposive sampling. The method of data collection techniques interviews, documentation, and test. Quantitative data analysis techniques using T-test (independent samples test) and Qualitative data analysis techniques use reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions that are in accordance with the newman method. Based on the results of the analysis on research, conclusion: 1) there is a difference between the ability of male students and women in completing a math story problem-oriented PISA, ability female students better than students male. 2) mistakes committed by female students amounted to 32% reading error, 26% comprehension error, 23% transform error, 19% process skills error and 28% encoding error. While the mistakes committed by male students of 14% reading error, 13% comprehension error, 23% transform error, 8% process skills error, dan 19% encoding error. 3) cause factor that affects the student's fault that is unbiased understanding of the keywords reserved by either, not accustomed to writing down what is known precisely which causes misinterpretation, not understanding the formulas used to calculate, skills still less, hurry in resolving the matter, less scrupulous, and wrong in calculating make students less precise in writing the conclusion.
