Abstract

The aim of this research are to describe greeting variations used in WhatsApp group of civitas academica SMP Islam Sjarbini Gesi. This research used qualitative descriptive method. Technique of collecting data by observation and document collection. Technique of analyzing data through technique sampling is semple random sampling, that is random sampling without considering strata in population. The data validity investigation used method refer to assisted by advanced technique in the form of technique note then data analyzed by qualitative descriptive method. Result of analysis of research and discussion that is: 1) Greeting language used in user’s speech in group WhatsApp from SMP Islam Sjarbini Gesi that is, Bapak/Pak, Ibu/Bu, Ayah, Bunda/Bun, Mas, Mbak, De (Pakde), Bude, Lek, Tante, Bos, Ndan, Bro, Jhon, Cil, Cuy, Cah, Mr, Ustad, Akhi, Ukhti, Ente, Anda, Beliau, Engkau, Sampean, Kowe, Kawan, Njenengan/Panjenengan, Kakak, Adik as well as greetings of self-name and kinship greetings followed by such self-names like Pak Sanusi. In addition there are also title greeting, rank, and profession like Kepala Sekolah, Guru dan Manajer. 2) Various language greetings on group WhatsApp from civitas academika SMP Islam Sjarbini Gesi includes the variety of greetings as pronouns and kinship terms. 3) Factors behind the use of greetings to group WhatsApp from civitas academika SMP Islam Sjarbini Gesi including social class factors, gender, age, and ethnicity.
