Abstract

Brake Shoe or often referred to as Brake Shoes, is a component of a motorized vehicle that serves to hold the wheel rotation so that braking occurs. The brake system is used to slow down or stop the motorcycle. The purpose of this study was to examine the durability of material in the Brake Shoe by doing Aging Treatment. Aging is a process of heat treatment carried out on a material to increase its hardness by combining heating above room temperature with a certain heating period. This study uses Brake Shoe material that is on the market, namely called the ADC12, the ADC12 forming material itself, namely Aluminum Silicon (Al-Si). Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal that has mild and rust resistant properties. Aluminum is used as an alloy of various pure metals, because it does not lose light properties and mechanical properties and cast manipulation by adding other elements. The study was conducted by varying the temperature at Aging, the temperature variation used in this test was 150 ° C and 200 ° C. Each test was carried out with a duration of detention for 6 hours. Testing of chemical composition uses the ASTM E1251 standard, Testing microstructure using the ASTM E3 standard, Testing hardness using the ASTM E10 standard. The results of the chemical composition test revealed that there were 17 constituent elements of the ADC12 alloy. It consists of 9 main AlSi formers and 8 smaller elements. The results of the microstructure test found differences between Aluminum ADC12 without heat treatment with a sample temperature of 150 ° C with 200 ° C. The hardness test results on ADC12 material without heat treatment obtained HB conversion of 74.50 while after aging at 150 ° C HB conversion of 202.00 was obtained and at 200 ° C HB conversion was obtained at 227.80.
