Abstract

Teacher is a person who has important role and post in education. In schools, the teacher exists to devote himself for the sake of human being particularly students. Besides, Indonesia demands their generation to have supervision and guidance from the teacher. Therefore, teacher’s role is inseparable from education. The teacher is the utmost component in education institution because the teacher plays a vital role in education. Thus, the teacher survives along with education institution existence. This research aims to investigate K.H. Imam Zarkasyi’s point of view regarding to teacher primarily the characteristics that a teacher should have. This study was library research and the data collection method was document analysis which was done systematically on notes and documents as the data resources. The data analysis method employed was content analysis by giving understanding of teacher’s characteristics explained in literatures based on K.H. Imam Zarkasyi’s standpoint. The results revealed that the teacher, based on K.H. perception, has an important role in education process. The role led to two cases namely self-teaching and teaching others. Self-teaching process covered what teacher had done in the process of teaching, managing student, material comprehension, and teaching preparation. Meanwhile, teaching others (student) is an effort of a teacher to transfer knowledge to students by certain technique and method.
