Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe : 1) Effect of student perceptions about the teaching profession on the interest in becoming a teacher. 2) The influence of the family environment on the interest of being a teacher. 3) Effect of student perceptions of the teaching profession and family environment on the interest in becoming a teacher in accounting education study program students. This study uses associative quantitative methods. The population in this study were all students of the 2015/2016 Muhammadiyah University accounting education study program, amounting to 225 students who were then taken 140 students by proportional random sampling technique as a sample. Data was collected by questionnaire and documentation. Prerequisite test for data analysis includes linearity test and normality test. The data analysis technique used is multiple regression analysis, t test, F test, R², relative contribution and effective contribution. The results of regression analysis obtained Y = 36,085 + 0,138X1 + 0,148X2. The conclusion of this study is : 1) Students' perceptions of the teaching profession have a significant effect on the interest in becoming a teacher, this is evident from the results of the t test obtaining tcount > ttable which is 3.287 > 1.980 at a significance level of 5% with a relative contribution of 64,4% and effective contributions 9,4%; 2) The family environment has a significant effect on the interest in being a teacher. This is evident from the results of the t test obtained tcount> ttable which is 3.348 > 1.980 at a significance level of 5% with a relative contribution of 44,8% and an effective contribution of 6,5%; 3) Students' perceptions of the teaching profession and family environment towards the interest of becoming a teacher together have a significant effect on the interest in becoming a teacher. This is evident from the results of the f test obtained fcount > ftable which is 11,689 > 3,928 at a significance level of 5%. 4) The coefficient of determination obtained the value of R² = 0.146 shows that the magnitude of the influence of student perceptions of the teaching profession and family environment on the interest in becoming a teacher is 14.6%. The rest is explained by other variables not examined. Keywords : interest in becoming a teacher, student perceptions of the teaching profession and family environment.
