Abstract

Previous research discussed the role of teacher-student relationship on learning outcomes, child development, social relations, and behavior. The teacher-student relationship becomes an important component, because the impact is felt by students sustainable. The purpose of this study is to describe the dimensions that form the quality of teacher-student relations. This study uses an indigenous approach with 348 respondents. This study involves high school students in Central Java and DIY. The data collection process uses an open-ended questionnaire that consisting of two questions. The collected data is analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results showed that 61.5% participants answered teacher-student relationship in good condition. Then followed by 22.7% of respondents had a very good relationship, 14.7% were rather good, 0.9% was fairly good, and 0.3% was not good relationship. This study shows, in general, teacher-student relationship are good. The results of this study also found that the teacher-student relationship was formed by 3 dimensions. The interaction dimension consist of warmth, closeness, and intimacy. The dimensions of the teacher's role amount to role models, mentors, carers, and instructors. The student dimension comprises student’s good behavior, respect for the teacher, and student achievement. The very good relations are dominated by the role of the teacher. Relations that are categorized as good and rather good are dominated by the interaction dimension. The fairly good and not good relations happen because the students are not close to the teacher, have made mistakes, and also the teacher's character and teaching methods are not good.
