Abstract

Essential oil of eucalyptus plant has a lot of benefits, such as raw material for medicine manufactures, insecticides, and cosmetics. Moreover, eucalyptus plant might be used for critical land preservation that able to adapt on karst landform with various slopes. This research objective are 1) identifying the distribution of the eucalyptus crown canopy’s density at Nglipar RPH BDH Karangmojo KPH Yogyakarta, 2) identifying the slopes’ distribution at RPH Nglipar BDH Karangmojo KPH and 3) analyzing the relation between distributions of eucalyptus crown canopy’s density and slopes distribution. The distribution of vegetation density was analyzed by using Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index (SAVI). Canopy’s density divided into three classes, namely; low density, medium density, and high density. Slopes distribution were classified according to slope classification. Relation between distributions of eucalyptus crown canopy’s density with slopes distributions were analyzed based on the percentage of the vegetation density total area on particular slope. The distributions of eucalyptus crown canopy’s density on the observed area showed that low density class has the total 1,18%, medium density class has 41,68%, and high density class has 57,16%. Slopes distributions on the observed area were divided into flat slope (34,76%), wavy (43,66%) and undulating (21,59%.). Analysis of relation between distributions of vegetation density with the slopes’ distributions shows that the distribution of eucalyptus crown canopy’s density has low relation with flat and undulating slope, while the distribution of eucalyptus crown canopy’s density has middle relation while wave slope. It can be concluded that wavy slope is the most suitable land condition for eucalyptus plants on the observed area.
