Abstract

The electrochemical cell is one of the alternate energy generated by the oxidation and the reduction reaction. The electrochemical cell is composed of two conductive materials called cathode and anode. In electrochemical cells there is a salt solution as a medium for electricity exchange. The amount of current and voltage generated by the electrochemical cell depends on several factors: the size of the electrode, the concentration of electrolyte solution (salt) and also the amount of water for the electrolyte solution. An electrochemical cell with copper and aluminum electrodes, with a length of 9cm wide by 2cm and using a 250ml electrolyte solution can produce an electrical voltage of 567mV. These electrochemical cells not only generate electricity alone, but also can holds electricity by providing electricity on the cell or so-called charging. Furthermore, the charging process causes corrosion of both electrodes. Keywords: alternate energy, electrochemical cell, charging, discharging
