Abstract

This research was carried out as a biocoagulant, which is useful to determine the ability of winged bean powder to improve soil air quality and its effect on parameters containing water hardness, Ca+ and pH levels. The method used is coagulation-flocculation, sedimentation and continued with adsorption with activated carbon. The sample water is a groundwater from the Mojosongo area, Jebres, Surakarta. The results of the initial air sample test were 700 mg/l hardness, 83,6 mg/l Ca level and 7,1 pH. Variables used in the coagulation process are coagulant doses. From the research that has been done obtained optimal results with coagulant doses at a dose of 0.5 grams with 16,25% hardness reduction (586,25mg / l), a decrease in Ca levels 23,08% (64 mg/l) and a pH of 7,42. In the process of adsorption of variable activated carbon used is duration contact of activated carbon. The optimum results were obtained at contact time with activated carbon for 60 minutes with 50,75% hardness reduction (288,75 mg/l), a decrease in Ca levels 35,00% (41,6%) and pH 8,3. From the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that coagulant of winged beans can reduce hardness and levels, but still not necessarily the quality of clean water quality. In the adsorption process, activated carbon is very effective in reducing hardness, Ca levels and increasing pH.
