Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe 1) Efforts to foster communicative and social caring characters for upper class students of MI Muhammadiyah Bolon. 2) Constraints faced and 3) Solutions made to overcome these obstacles. This type of research is qualitative with qualitative descriptive methods. Data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis techniques with data reduction, data description presentation, and conclusion drawing. Test the validity of the data using technical and source triangulation. The results of this study indicate 1) Efforts to foster communicative and social care characters, namely: (a) routine morning greetings, Friday infaqs, distribution of basic necessities and distributing sacrificial meat, (b) spontaneous activities carried out through communicating in polite language, affirmation , students shake hands while greetings, raise funds and visit sick friends, (c) exemplary smile, greetings and greetings, do not give distance when communicating with students, dress well, carry out infaq, invite students to visit sick and illiterate friends , (d) Integration in dialogical subjects namely: greetings beginning and end of learning, using discussion methods and teaching help, (e) School culture is carried out by providing facilities for routine infaq, facilitating social action activities and social services and building harmony among class citizens. 2) Constraints faced in an effort to foster communicative and social caring characters namely (a) students mock each other, (b) students when learning is crowded by themselves, (c) students do not want to be friends with friends and only want to group with friends who are familiar and not want to be separated from their best friends, (d) fight between students and say their friends in inappropriate words, (e) there are students who have not realized and understand the importance of social care, students like to choose if they help their friends, (f) the influence of the environment outside school. 3) The solution that is done in overcoming obstacles is (a) giving a reprimand, (b) advising students who mock each other, (c) if students fight given punishment, (d) the teacher advises students who do not want to be friends or separated from their best friends, ( e) advise students about the importance of social care for others, (f) and hold meetings and home visits.
