Abstract

Insecticide is a chemical compound that is used to kill pest insects. Kirinyu leaves contain bioactive compounds in the form of alkaloids, phenolics, tannins, and saponins. Other plants that have the potential as botanical insecticides are bay leaves. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a leaf extract with bay leaf extract on the mortality of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The hypothesis of this study is that giving a leaf extract with bay leaf extract affects the mortality of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. The research method used was an experimental method using completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications namely different types of solvents (70% ethanol and N-hexane) and extract concentrations of 5%, 10%, 20%. Data analysis was performed by testing the Kruskall-Wallis hypothesis. The results showed that the use of 70% ethanol and N-hexane solvents did not significantly (P> 0.05) the mortality of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. This study also showed that the concentration of leaf extract was reduced with bay leaf which could kill the most effective Aedes aegypti mosquito, which was 20%. The administration of leaf extract with bay leaves for 24 hours had a significant effect on the mortality of Aedes aegypti mosquito, the higher the concentration of extract given, the higher the mortality rate of Aedes aegypti mosquito.
