Abstract
Indonesia is one of the countries with the most natural resources which has several kinds of plants that can be used as natural dyes. The trend of “back to nature” leads to the development of the use of natural dyes more increasing. This phenomenon encourages more studies to obtain natural dyes. Alternative raw materials used secang wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.). Brazilein is a red natural dye from secang wood. The extraction method in this analysis used ultrasonification and maceration. Solvent to extract brazilein used aqudes, etanol, HCl, and NaOH. Spectrofotometer uv-vis used to test of absorbance product. The best method to extract brazilein is ultrasonification method. And the best solvent used ethanol,with addition 40 mL of ethanol have absorbance 1,895.
