Abstract

This research has two objectives. (1) Describing the principle of politeness in the Indozone.id Instagram news reader online commentary "Raeni, the Pedicab Pedicure Child Will Continue S-3 in England". (2) Describing the language politeness scale according to Lakoff in the Indozone.id Instagram news reader online commentary "Raeni, the Pedicab's Pedicure Children Will Continue S-3 in England" This research uses qualitative research. The data in this study are the Indozone.id Instagram news reader comments online "Raeni, Pedicab Children Will Continue S-3 in England". The source of data in this study is the indozone.id news portal on Instagram social media. The results of the study show that the principle of language politeness is found there are 8 utterances maxims of wisdom, 10 utterances of maxims of acceptance, 37 utterances of maxims of mercy, 10 utterances of maxims of humility, 14 utterances of maximization of compatibility, and 23 utterances of maximal conclusions. Whereas politeness scale according to Lakoff found there were 11 utterances of the formalities scale, 3 choice scales, and 20 scale of security. The most dominant principle of language politeness is the utterance of the maxim of mercy. While the most dominant language politeness scale is the scale of the prisoners.
