Abstract

Plastics have been such a complicated problems bacause of their difficultnature to break down by microorganisms, so the plastics is difficult to degree with soil in a short time, the plastic takes 400-600 years to degree. So there must be a solution to overcome this, on of which is the manufacture of biodegradable plastic. Biodegradable plastic is a plastic that can be degraded by microorganisms in a faster time than synthetic plastics. In this study, the raw material for making bioplastic is corn cob starch. A long with the increase of corn production in Indonesia, can not be denied the existence of corn contain increase. The resulting waste is corn cobs. Corn cob is a part of corn that does not be contain seeds. Corn cobs are chosen because corncobs have so abundant these times but the utilization of corncobs is very less and even so far only thrown away. Rom this problem came the thought to utilize pretty much there is on the corn cob.vin this case corn starch ingredients plus glycerol, chitosan and acetic acid to produce biodegradable plastic. This study aims to determine the effect of addition of glycerol and chitosan on the process of making biodegradable plastic. This research was done by isolating corn cob to get starch. Then mixing aquadest, acetic acid, and glycerol with 4 grams of starch, glycerol (3, 4.5, 6, 7 ml) and chitosan (2, 3, 4 gram). After obtaining the plastic film layer is done elongation test, tensile strenght, water endurance test and biodegradability test.
