Abstract

The casting temperature at the casting process greatly affects the cast product results. This study aims to determine the effect of temperature variation on the physical characteristics of castings and mechanical properties and defects in castings. The material used in this research is Aluminum (Al) used to be melted back in the melting kitchen and then Aluminum that has been liquid poured into sand mold, variation of casting temperature used is 6700C, 6900C, and 7100C. The results of data analysis showed that the percentage of shrinkage at the temperature of casting 6700C amounted to 0.717%, the temperature of casting 6900C of 0.684%, and the temperature of 7100C castings of 0.621%. From the observation of porosity defects of cast products using casting temperature of 6700C has a slight porosity defect compared to a 6900C casting temperature and a 7100C casting temperature. The composition test performed yielded 17 chemical elements, but the most dominant element in aluminum casting product was Si 12.3%, Fe 1.26%, and Zn 0.647%, while for Al 85.11%. Judging from the existing elements, this casting product can be classified aluminum alloy silicon metal (Al-Si). The price of hardness of aluminum casting product using variation of casting temperature of 6700C is 80,924 HVN, casting temperature 6900C is 92,308 HVN, and casting temperature 7100C is 99,375 HVN. Keywords : casting temperature, aluminum, chemical composition, hardness.
