Abstract

Kurnianingrum, Reni. S200160100. “The Comparative Study Between Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Method and Translation Method on Reading Skill viewed from the Students’ Motivation”. Thesis, Magister of Language Studies. Post Graduate of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, The primary Supervisor is Dr. Maryadi, M.A., and the Co-Supervisor is Dr. Anam Sutopo,M. Hum. 2018. The main objectives of this research are: (1) To find out whether there is or not different influence Question Answer Relationship (QAR) Method and Translation Method toward teaching reading for the students of The Multimedia Department XII Grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in The Academic Year 2017/2018, (2) To find out whether there is or not different influence of high students’ motivation and low students’ motivation toward teaching reading for the students of The Multimedia Department XII Grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in The Academic Year 2017/2018, (3) To find out whether there is or not different influence of the interaction between learning method and students’ motivation toward teaching reading for the students of The Multimedia Department XII Grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in The Academic Year 2017/2018. The model used in this research is experimental model. The total population of this study is 309 students of the XII grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in The Academic Year 2017/2018. While the sample used in this study a total of 57 students from 2 classes, namely the XII grade of Multimedia (MM) Department 1 and the XII grade of Multimedia (MM) Department 2. Data collection techniques in this study using the test reading text procedure and questionnaire motivation. Technique of data analysis used is Two Way ANOVA. The result of this study resulted in the conclusion that: (1) There is any different influence of the Question-Answer Relationship (QAR) Method and Translation Method toward students’ reading skill for the students of The Multimedia Department XII Grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year 2017/2018. (2) There is different influence of high students’ motivation and low students’ motivation toward students’ reading skill for the students of the Multimedia Department XII Grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year 2017/2018. (3) There is any influence of the interaction between Question Answer Relationship (QAR) Method and Translation Method as well as students’ motivation toward students’ reading skill for the students of the Multimedia Department XII Grade at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Kota Tegal in the academic year 2017/2018.
