Abstract

Fiber reinforced composites is a combination of composite with fiber reinforcement. The composition is composite, fiber and silane coupling agent. Composite and fiber can not bind well, therefore the bond between them requires the help of silane. Silane can improve bonding and help adhesi between composite and fiber. The factor that affects the silane work is the duration of silane drying. Longe drying time will make the water absorption and the solubility of the material will decrease. The purpose of this research was to know the effect of long drying of silane to solubility of fiber reinforced composites. The sample of the study was a 25mm x 2mm x 2mm beam split into three groups with long drying 30 s, 45 s and 60 s. The solubility test is performed by looking at the change in sample weight before immersion and after immersion under constant heavy condition. The result of this study indicate the difference in mean values of the three groups of samples. The duration of silane drying which had the least solubility is the silane with long drying 60 s±20,45%. The mean differences in the three groups of samples was measured using One way ANAVA and LSD. The result of statistical tests showed significant difference between groups with significance values (p<0,05). The conclusions of this study was that the duration of silane drying which has the least solubility obtained in the sample group with the silane drying time 60 s.
