Abstract

The worldwide production of ethanol is increasing as the demand increases. Ethanol produced, obtained fusel oil one of which is isoamyl alcohol. A number of attempts has been carried out to obtain more useful derivatif of isoamyl alcohol. One of them is isoamyl acetate synthesis used by esterification reaction of isoamyl alcohol and acetic acid by using zeolite catalyst. Isoamyl acetate is a liquid ester compound which has a distinctive smell like the smell of bananas. The independent variables to be used in this study are temperature (80, 90, 100, 110 ° C), and ratio ratio of acetic acid and isoamic alcohol (1: 1, 1: 2, 2: 1, 1: 4, 1: 6 , 1: 8). The control variables are number of catalyst (10%) and reflux time (2 hours). The results of this study can be concluded that the higher the reaction temperature used at the time of heating, the higher the resulting conversion is 98.48%. The more the amount of isoamyl alcohol used, the higher the conversion is 99.48%
