Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the: (1) improvement of the results of learning math students with open-ended approach, (2) the difference in the results of learning math students taught using open-ended approach with improved learning results mathematics students taught using conventional learning model. This type of research quantitative research design experimental quasi-experimental design. The population of the entire research grade VII SMP N 1 Masaran, consisting of 258 students divided into 8 classes. Samples taken by as much as 2 classes, first class approach to Open-Ended and the second class with the conventional model. Sampling techniques using cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques with methods of tests and documentation. Analytical techniques used were test t. Based on the results of the research with the significance level of 5%, is obtained: (1) open-ended Approach can improve the results of learning math students. This improvement is shown by an increase in the average value before and after being given the treatment i.e. from 37.88 increase to 75.3 (2) improvement of the results of learning math students between classroom experimentation and different control classes. Based on the percentage increase in the average value obtained then it can be noted that the increase in the results of the experimental class students learn math better than the class of the control. This is confirmed by the results of the count score gain i.e. average score gains on the grade control of 0.52 whereas the average score gains on the experimental class of 0.6. This means Open-ended approach is more effective for improving student math learning outcomes compared to conventional learning model.
