Abstract

In this paper, the writer observes the teaching-learning process of English to the third year students at SD Islam International Nurul Musthofa. The objective of this research paper to describe the component of English teaching-learning procerss and advantages and disadvantages. The writer focus on the teacher and the students as a source of the data. The primary data are taken through observation and interview. The writer just takes the third year students. From the observation, the writer draw conclusions concerning teaching learning process using communicative approach. They are: (a) the goal of the teaching English is to introduce the vocabulary to the students about everything around them and familiar with them, and the students get the conversational material to make them fluent, because the communication in the school used English. (b) the syllabus model of SD Islam International Nurul musthofa is the topic based syllabus. The syllabus consist of unit, topic, language function, and the example of sentence pattren. (c) the material is used to support the teachig leraning process in the classroom. (d) the teacher’s roles . In this case, the roles of the teacher are as: the motivator, communicator, facilitator, and counselor. (e) the student’s role, the students is the subject of learning . (f) the evaluation is taken in order to know the proficiency and the progress of the student’s ability in catching the lesson. The writer concludes that the teaching English using Communicative Approach has advantages and disadvantage. The advantages are the teacher can give opportunities to the students to express their ideas freely and also can help to solve the student’s progress. The disadvantage is the teacher get difficulties to manage the situation because the students are very active to communicate and express their ideas.
