Abstract

This research has four aims. Describe a form of speech acts expressive, act of politeness expressive, speech act strategy in conveying comments in Jokowi’s instagram account, and describe relevance with the basic competence of Indonesian class IX. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative based on theory of Leech about speech acts and politeness reinforced by Rahardi's contextual method. Total of 203 data from 3 uploads identified containing expressive of speech acts (praise, apportion, congratulate, apologize, sympathize, be amazed, proud, insult, taunt, disappointed, grateful, criticize, complaine, accuse, grateful, and welcomed). From 203 data, analyzed again and obtained 124 form act of politeness expressive (approbation maxim, modesty maxim, and sympathy maxim). As for, the strategies that speakers tend to use in conveying comments are direct strategies.
