Abstract

The research mainly discusses the socio-pragmatic analysis of refusal utterance in cartoon movie manuscript. The purposes of his research are to describe the ways, the implicature and the politeness strategies of refusal utterances use in the cartoon movie manuscripts. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study is refusal utterances in cartoon movie manuscripts. The sources of the data are Mulan, Mulan II and Kung Fu Panda cartoon movie manuscript. The technique for data analysis is describing the data (refusal utterance) into certain ways of refusal by using Robin’s 9 ways of refusal theory, describing the meaning of the use refusal utterance employed in cartoon movie manuscript by using implicature theory and cooperative principle, and describing the politeness strategies of refusal utterance use in the cartoon movie manuscript by using context of speech and politeness pattern. The result of the research shows from 25 data there are 9 ways of refusal utterance utter by the speaker. The implicature can be classified in to two: conventional implicature and conversational one. All of politeness strategy use in cartoon movie manuscript.
